![]() ![]() They obviously care for the wonderful place where they live and work. Janice and Michael, the innkeepers, are great! They are good resources for local information. All guests and staff are required to wear masks and maintain social distancing when outside their rooms. For our last visit, not all these amenities were available due to COVID-19 restrictions. The Lodge has a pool table, comfy chairs, a fireplace, board games, reading material, visitor guides, frig and microwave. Binoculars are available in the Lodge and there’s a list of recent bird sightings. The Lodge and outside deck are special places to unwind and watch nature. Our kitchenette had everything we needed. The rooms are nicely decorated in a beach theme, very clean, and comfortable. The grounds are beautiful and obviously get lots of care. Everything - rooms, lodge, decks, the whole property - is well maintained. We’ve stayed in 4 of the seven rooms and never been disappointed. For the past several years, we have stayed there while visiting family in Point Reyes. Motel Inverness is such a special, peaceful place. There is an understanding to be respectful of noise after 9pm and when we were there, everyone was accommodating. And anyway, aren't you out and about in fabulous Point Reyes? I can't say enough how much we loved our stay.and the new managers are gracious, friendly and helpful. The road noise out front is there on summer weekends but in the evening and morning hours, everything was relaxing. We stayed in the California Quail room that was cozy, clean and had a comfortable bathroom and little deck facing Tomales Bay as well. There is a great communal room with comfy lounge chairs, a lovely fireplace, board games, a pool table, little frig/microwave, bird-watching lists on black-boards and a wonderful big deck for guests. The motel backs up against stunning Tomales Bay with unobstructed views everywhere. Please call for more information between 7:30 am and 10:30 am or 4:30 pm and 10 pm. They offer dormitory style accommodations, as well as four private rooms. It is welcoming, old-school, intimate and serene. The only lodging within Point Reyes National Seashore (other than backcountry camping) is the Hostelling International USA-Point Reyes. I believe someone once wrote Motel Inverness has a soulful heart.and we found that genuine goodness to be true everywhere. Dona was totally cool, just asking us to party on the 1st landing of the stairway rather than on the front porch). (I should add after returning late from the luminescence kayak trip we drank a bottle of wine to unwind and were smokers at the time. If you do, just don't stay here! Leave it for the chill folks who enjoy it for the unique experience it is, and can appreciate the charm. I don't mind taking my shoes off to keep the noise down, and I don't mind being asked and reminded to lock the door when we leave. It is a shared space after all, though each room as it's own private bathroom. I reserved months in advance and she made me clear the rules with my wife before accepting my payment :-) Many people are enchanted by the authenticity of the location, and the genuine concern she is expressing for the other guests. I might normally be one of those, except we knew going in this was not a 'conventional' bed and breakfast. Yes, Dona does drill you about the 'rules' and I understand others are offended. It is important to appreciate the AI for what it is - a taste of a time gone by, a chance to experience genuine Northern Marin local culture, and a somewhat fragile, 100 year old house. We came to Pt Reyes for a nighttime kayak trip and were looking for an affordable place to sleep. I'm writing this review to add to those voices who loved staying at the Abalone Inn, and who found Dona to be a sweet, thoughtful, and doting hostess. ![]()
